Local storage saves recordings on a card or another supported device at home. Cloud storage sends recordings to a service over the internet. The useful comparison is what each option lets you record, retrieve and keep, along with its ongoing cost.
For a doorbell, separate three questions: Can you see the visitor now? Is a recording saved? Can you retrieve that recording later? An indoor screen or a live app view does not, by itself, answer the other two.

After installation, trigger a test event and check the indoor display, phone notification and saved clip separately. Then confirm that you can export the clip to a device you control. If remote access matters, repeat the app check from another internet connection.
A subscription choice does not resolve every WiFi or app-notification issue. If an alert is late, check the connection and notification permissions before assuming that buying cloud storage is the solution.
For a memory card, confirm that it is recognized and recording correctly. Loop recording can overwrite old files. Export important clips promptly and confirm that the exported file opens; a visible thumbnail is not the same as a usable backup.
Which arrangement fits your household?
Local storage may suit you when you mainly want recordings available at home and prefer to avoid an optional cloud plan. Check the camera's actual playback and export workflow.
Cloud storage may suit you when keeping successfully uploaded recordings away from the device is important, and the service's price, retention and account requirements are acceptable.
A combined setup may suit you if the model supports the arrangement you want. Confirm simultaneous recording and retrieval behavior rather than assuming both copies always exist.
