Problems resolved, Testing, Stealth Hints & a new application

Problems1) The 18 inch USB TO micro USB cable would not read the memory card but another cable would.2) Discovered pen date time started on 3/31/2019 and that date and later April date on both the file dates as well as the video time stamp.Setting the date per the instruction pamphlet would not change the time. It was most annoying to have a many years older timestamp in video.Needless to say I was a unhappy camper with these problems.The cable problem was solved by the seller giving me a modest credit for a replacement. First to Amazon who then refunded some state sales tax as well the to my credit card.The 2nd problem was more difficult but I ended up solving that on my own as the sellers suggestions were things I had already tried.There is a file called time.txt. I found that anytime the pen either creates that file or writes to it then for any edits the pens clock will not reset, but my creating a new time.txt would. When the pen writes to time.txt and correctly sets the clock it looks like this 2020-01-01 23:59:59 YStrange but that delete recorrect time.txt works every time for me. I even tried date 2025-04-01 (April Fools Day) since the pen was making a fool of me before I found a solution.So now I can change the date and have the option to either have the timestamp Y in the video or not N.Overall I'm now a satisfied with my purchase.Stealth HintsI chose a pen with a black clip because why have a gold or chrome calling attention to the pen? Wearing dark (not light) clothing to match color the pen would also help.You might have seen a youtube for adding a stiffener to the pocket and that's a great idea but here's another using just 2 sheets of 8.5x11 paper.Fold a sheet in half top to bottom, then fold left to right, finally fold top to bottom again. Repeat for 2nd sheet. Take one and have the crease edges on left and top then take the 2nd with the crease edges on top and right. Place one so that it's non-crease side is inside the other non-crease. You now have an adjustable pocket stiffener.Adjust it in you pocket and insert another pen to hold the together. After setting the pen to record clip it next to the pen. You should have both pen tops peering out of top of the pocket (see photo). Why two pens? Because it actually draws less attention than just having the spy pen.In Photo mode the jpg pictures are about 840 Kb alright but much better photos with a smart phone.My testing1) Test Drive#1I thought I'd drive to a big box store and walk around. Thinking my drive would be recorded like a dash cam.Reviewing I discovered the top of the steering wheel and mostly sky as car seat backs are not perpendicular.Walking around a store the video was somewhat jerky but using VLC in pause mode the frames were mostly clear. If you're turning you head what you see might not be captured as this is not spy glasses or a hat cam which of course are much more expensive,2) Test Drive #2 & the new applicationFrom Test#1 I wanted to see if I could make the pen a dash cam. My dash is anything but flat so it took me a while to come up with something but I did -see photo.That's an old frozen food container. In the top near the front I poked a hole to insert the pen bottom. One of the rear box flaps I cut to poke into the air vents and used the vent adjustments to grip the flap when the box on the dash. Worked perfectly I can see the traffic lights and even read the plate on the car in front while waiting in traffic.3) Testing battery record duration.Set the pen up to stationary record until low batter stops recording.The pen writes 5 minute avi files all slightly less than 1.2 Gigabyte.For my test I got 19 5 min files (95 minutes of video) for battery duration.PS: VLC should be able to combine segments if you want to make one long video.For a 64 gigabyte card that's almost 4.5 hours of video storage.When the pen needs to create a video file and memory is nearly full it will delete the earliest files until it has enough space to create a new one so copy or move files you want to keep.How to fairly accurate set the pen video timeSet the time a few minutes ahead example 2025-10-18 14:12:00 YTime is 2400 clock so if 1PM or later just add 12 to the hour.place card back in pen and wait until it's almost the time you created in time.txt then power on or start a video with the pen. That will set the pen clock
